  4. KUMHO HIGHLIGHTS THE NEED FOR ROAD SAFETY OVER CHRISTMAS

    December 22, 2011 by alternat

Kumho is pleading with motorists to check their tyres ahead of the busy Christmas and New Year period.

As we head into the busiest time of the year on our roads, car owners are being urged to check tyre condition and ensure their tyres are at the correct pressures.

David Basha, Kumho's national marketing and training manager, says there is a direct correlation between tyre condition and road safety.

"It's essential to maintain the recommended tyre pressure and regularly check tyre conditions to ensure optimum traction and handling," he stated.

"Not only does a properly maintained tyre improve handing and traction but it will also improve fuel economy and provide a more comfortable ride for you and your passengers."

Under or over inflated tyres don't provide proper contact with the road. Under inflated tyres also don't allow for heat dispersion and wear the outer edges of the tyre quicker. Over inflated tyres on the other hand have a small contact area, hamper the handling of the vehicle, highlight road imperfections as well as wear the centre of the tyre out quicker.

"Checking tyres only takes a couple of minutes but is small price to pay for safe, comfortable motoring," said David Basha.

Tyres should have at least two millimetres of tread to ensure the tyre can still channel water in wet conditions. Kumho recommends car owners check their tyre depth by placing a match stick in the grooves of the tyre. A tyre with sufficient tread won't have the match protruding the tread.

David Basha commented, "Every year, there are too many accidents on Australian roads and many of them can be prevented. Kumho urges everyone to regularly check tyre pressures and not to put off purchasing new tyres when their current ones are near the end of their working life to help make Australian roads a safer place."

Since its inception in 1960, Kumho Tyres has been a model of steady growth amid dramatic changes of business landscape. Driven by innovation in management and technical development Kumho has become one of the top ten tyre companies in the world.

Over the past half-century Kumho Tyres has built the foundation for a sustainable company, which has thrived through a full range of business environments.

Kumho has succeeded in the development of superior tyres for all vehicles including high performance, passenger, sports utility and recreational vehicles, as well as light trucks, heavy truck and buses, industrial, agricultural, mining and construction vehicles as well as aircraft.

Kumho produces more than 68 million tyres annually with a massive research and development program which comprises more than 600 research personnel and 300 testing machines at proving grounds in South Korea, China, Europe and North America. Kumho leads the world with the latest in tyre technology, safety and performance.

In Australia Kumho markets an extensive range of tyres for cars, 4WDs, light commercials, trucks and buses with a network centered around five state locations with the ability to distribute tyres to retailers across all areas of Australia.

  5. PINK FITTERS DAY HAS AN EVEN BRIGHTER FUTURE AS …

PINK FITTERS DAY HAS AN EVEN BRIGHTER FUTURE AS
AS KUMHO TYRE DEALERS INCREASE SUPPORT FOR THE MCGRATH FOUNDATION

Tyre fitters around the country will again be donning the pink in April 2012 when the blokey world of tyre retailing takes a day to get in touch with its feminine side and raise funds for one of the country’s best known charities, The McGrath Foundation.

On Friday April 20th close to 2500 tyre fitters around the country will be donning special pink shirts to raise money for the breast cancer charity as a part of the day organised by leading tyre manufacturer Kumho.

It will be the third year that Kumho Tyres has promoted the Pink Fitters Day as a fund raiser for the McGrath Foundation and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever with more dealers expected to participate, almost doubling the number of participants compared with the 2011 event

Kumho is organising Pink Fitters Day as added support for the McGrath Foundation, in addition to the $200,000 it has donated over the past two years and the commitment of a further $100,000 per year over the next two years.

The novel fundraising initiative involves the company’s network of tyre dealers around the country on Pink Fitters Day April 20th.

Kumho tyre dealer staff and fitters around the country don the special pink shirts for the day as a sign of their support for the McGrath Foundation and the vital work it is doing in caring for women with breast cancer and their families through access to McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia as well as increasing breast awareness amongst young Australian women.

More than 400 tyre dealers and their staff who retail Kumho Tyres will wear pink shirts on April 20th with each shirt triggering another $10 donation to the McGrath Foundation, with a target to raise $25,000 from the day.

According to Kumho Tyre’s CEO, Mr Edmund Cho, the tyre industry maybe a very male dominated business, but there is strong and growing support for the Pink Fitters day amongst Kumho dealers.

“It shows that people in the tyre industry understand that breast cancer, as Glenn McGrath always says, doesn’t just affect women – it affects families,” said Mr. Cho.

Tyre dealers across every state and territory in Australia will participate in Pink Fitters Day as the initiative, now in its third year grows in success and popularity.

Mr. Cho went on to say that the initiative was part of the tyre makers ‘100,000 Good Reasons’ program, which will deliver $100,000 to the McGrath Foundation in 2012, and is in line with the company’s efforts to contribute positively to communities in which it does business all across the world.

“As a tyre company, Kumho is committed to working hard to provide a substantial contribution to the betterment of people and society in general.”

“Kumho has been marketing products in Australia for over 30 years and as a company we felt it was time to give back to the community,” said Mr. Cho.

“In Korea, our approach to corporate and social responsibility is described as “arum daun giup”, which literally translated means ‘beautiful company,’” said Mr. Cho.

As part of its commitment to social responsibility, Kumho is using innovative technology to develop more environmentally friendly tyres.

Tyre customers are urged to support Kumho’s backing of the McGrath Foundation by visiting their local Kumho tyre dealer even if it is just to offer a word of support to the pink clad tyre fitters and consultants or for a safety check of their vehicle.

“Pink Fitters Day is already established as a major annual event in the tyre industry as more and more tyre retailers come on board in years to come to support the McGrath Foundation and the great work it is doing to support women diagnosed with breast cancer and their families right across Australia,” Mr. Cho concluded.

  8. KUMHO CHALLENGES THE TOP EUROPEAN BRANDS SCORING A PODIUM FINISH IN THE ANNUAL WHEELS TYRE TEST

KUMHO CHALLENGES THE TOP EUROPEAN BRANDS SCORING A PODIUM FINISH IN THE ANNUAL WHEELS TYRE TEST

Kumho has surprised critics by scoring a podium placing in the highly respected annual Wheels Magazine Tyre Test recording a giant killing performance to take a close third behind two much more expensive European tyres.

Kumho's KU39 also finished ahead of well established and respected Japanese brands in the gruelling and uncompromising Wheels test making it arguably the best value performance tyre on the Australian market.

Wheels Magazine concluded that "third place for the Kumho is a great result, and it showed up some big names from Bridgestone and Dunlop".

Both of the tyres that finished just ahead of the Kumho were up to 35 percent more expensive than the Kumho Ecsta LE Sport KU39.

The Kumho KU39 Ecsta finished just 1.5 percentage points away from the second placed Continental tyre and just 2.9 percentage points away from the Michelin tyre which took top honours in the test.

This despite the fact that the Kumho KU39 retails for around $340 while the Michelin retails for approximately $460 and the Continental $440.

According to Kumho Tyres Australia managing director, Mr Edmund Cho, the result is an undisputed confirmation that Kumho has arrived as a tyre brand delivering tyres that perform at the highest levels at affordable prices.

"The performance of the Ecsta KU39 in the Wheels Tyre Test shows it is a world class performance tyre capable of holding its own against any of the acknowledged industry leaders and underlines the fact that Kumho is now one of the world's top tyre brands," said Mr Cho.

"It should also help change the views of critics who in the past may have discriminated against Kumho as a result of ill founded perceptions," he said.

"The Wheels Tyre Test is a totally objective and scientific assessment of premium tyres that clearly demonstrates the KU39 is tyre that delivers great performance and a great price," he added.

The Wheels Tyre Test was carried out under control conditions with well-known race driver David Sieders testing all the tyres under the same conditions, using a new Kia Optima at the Eastern Creek raceway skidpan.

The Kumho KU39 was the top ranked tyre for wet braking and was ranked second for both wet cornering and for the dry slalom tests giving an overall score of 96.5 percent.

Sieders was not only unaware of which tyre he was using on any given test but was unaware of which brands were included in the test. Each tyre was ranked in each of the seven tests with the six dynamic tests scored out of 10 with the winning tyre getting the full count and each subsequent tyre allocated points proportional to its performance relative to the winner. The noise test was scored out of 5 with total points were totalled for a score out of 65 which was then converted to a percentage for ease of reading.

Kumho has already established its credentials in motor sport competition with the company winning the right to supply control tyres for the Bosch Australian Rally Championship, the Australian formula Three Championship and the Shannons V8 Touring Car Championship, while most recently British rally star Mark Higgins won round two of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship, the International Rally of Queensland using Kumho tyres.

Since it's inception in 1960, Kumho Tyres has been a model of steady growth amid dramatic changes of business landscape. Driven by innovation in management and technical development Kumho has become one of the top ten tyre companies in the world.
